Job Description: As a prep cook you will assist the kitchen team and maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the kitchen.

Your day-to-day duties may involve:

  • clearing and cleaning the kitchen surfaces
  • food preparation
  • disposing of food waste

A prep cook has the important role of supporting chefs and cooks perform their day-to-day tasks. As a prep cook, you will ensure that the kitchen and restaurant have adequate supplies of clean utensils and equipment, and you must also complete cleaning duties.

The prep cook must adhere to strict health and safety procedures by using cleaning materials correctly and assessing hygiene standards. Occasionally the prep cook will also help the chefs prepare the food. Good listening and communication skills are vital, as the prep cook will follow instructions from every team member in the restaurant.
