ServSafe Food Handler Not Accepted In Washington State

In Washington State, the ServSafe Food Handler is not accepted. This means if your employees are certified by ServSafe Food Handler, they will still need to get their food handler's card from the Washington State Department of Health, here.

COVID-19 Takeout, Delivery and Reopening Training Videos

ServSafe has developed two on-demand training videos to assist operators in training their staff in appropriate hygiene and sanitation practices.

ServSafe Takeout:  COVID-19 Precautions

This training video features:

  • An overview of coronavirus, symptoms of COVID-19, and details about its transmission
  • Review of five-step handwashing process
  • Respiratory hygiene practices to reduce the spread of the virus
  • Keeping guests safe through heightened cleaning and sanitizing
  • Guidelines for single-use gloves
  • Packaging considerations for takeout and/or curbside pickup
  • Guest contact precautions during takeout

Videos are available in both English and Spanish.


ServSafe Reopening Guidance: COVID-19 Precautions

This training video features:

  • Knowing the symptoms of COVID-19 
  • Preventing the spread 
  • Recognizing actions to reduce employee and guest risk 
  • Keeping guests and employees safe
  • Guidelines for face coverings, hand washing, hand sanitizer use, and food handling
  • Guidelines for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting 
  • Changes to maintain social distancing

ServSuccess: Career Development

The National Restaurant Association is offering both Restaurant Professional and Restaurant Supervisor learning suites free of charge to restaurant industry workers.  These learning suites, created with industry experts, were designed to reinforce your skills and knowledge and will help ensure you’re ready for what’s next in your career. They also cover everything you need to know to sit for the professional certification exam, should you choose to take it. A Certificate of Completion will be provided once each course is fully viewed.  



AHLEI - Supervisory Skill Builders, Hospitality Manager Leadership training series, Certified Hospitality Administrator training review

Lodging professionals can make good use of their time at home by developing skill-sets that can help take their hospitality career to the next level when they return to the workforce. 

Supervisory Skill Builders present the essential skills that help supervisors contribute to the success of a hospitality establishment. Nine modules offer skills development for key areas including conflict management, staffing and scheduling, communication, and team building. 

Hospitality Manager Leadership is the first in our Hospitality Manager training series. This course helps new, existing, and potential managers learn how to lead a team by building a positive workplace culture, aligning day-to-day operations with organizational goals, using emotional intelligence to connect with employees, and more. 

Certified Hospitality Administrator, or CHA, training reviews the necessary knowledge essential to overseeing all functional areas of a hospitality establishment as a GM or Operations Executive. Module topics include: Room and Financial Management, Human Resources, Sales, Marketing and more.

This review can assist with preparation for the Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS) Certification and Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) exams, but training completion does not qualify a candidate to sit for them. Time in position and other prerequisites must be fulfilled in addition to the submission of an application before approval is granted.  Please note that the exam and proctoring fees aren’t included in the free offering.  

Virtual Roundtable on Cultural Intelligence for Restaurant Managers During COVID-19

The Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance (MFHA), which continues to remain dedicated to keeping the conversation going on diversity throughout the food and hospitality communities, presents the on-demand virtual roundtable, Cultural Intelligence for Restaurant Managers During COVID-19.

Join Gerry Fernandez, founder and president of the MFHA, for a current state of cultural challenges amidst COVID-19 followed by a roundtable discussing thoughts and responses to situational scenarios with Claire Tse, Owner and Founder of Tse Solutions LLC, José René Gómez, President and Chief Inclusion Officer of Multicultural Solutions, LLC, and Ray Johnson, Divisional Vice President at Cracker Barrel.

Key questions and insights that address:

  • What challenges are affecting the Asian, Latino, and African American communities during COVID-19? 
  • Given these challenges, what can managers do to support their staff now, during the shutdown, and later when they return to work?

Phase-2 Reopening Training

In order to be eligible to reopen as your county moves into Phase-2, certain procedural, training, and safety requirements must be met. One of these is educating workers on coronavirus, its transmission, and the policies necessary to follow to keep themselves, customers, and the public as-a-whole safe.

This training is designed to meet that education requirement and assist both staff and managers in safely navigating this precarious time in the restaurant industry.

All attendees who complete the training will be given a certificate of completion demonstrating they have received training as outlined in the "Phase 2 Restaurant/Tavern Reopening COVID-19 Requirements" document
