Job Description: As a bartender person you’ll be stationed at the bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to customers. Your main responsibility is to greet the customers, make their drinks and process the order at the till.

Your day-to-day duties may involve:

  • meeting and greeting guests
  • preparing and making the drinks
  • maintaining health and safety standards
  • taking drink orders

Before the bar is open for service you will work with other bar team members to set up the bar area, stock the shelves, and make sure the drinks are at the correct temperature. Once open you’ll be preparing and serving drinks, and processing payments at the till. In addition to serving a wide range of beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic drinks, most establishments offer a choice of wines, coffee, and cocktails. In this case, you’ll need to be familiar with the menu and the techniques to make the drinks.

The bar area is a busy environment, where several customers may call for your attention at once. You will need to have good customer service skills and acknowledge every customer even at the busiest times. It is crucial that you communicate with other team members to ensure the customers are served in the correct order and are served the right drinks. There are strict laws regarding the identification process, and businesses face a fine if they are not adhered to. You must ensure that you and other team members are asking for the identification of the appropriate customers at the bar.
